3 Feng Shui Tips to Support your Home Office during COVID-19

Contributor: Cindy Garreton

You may be over the initial shock of working from home by now. It’s been over a month since our world changed. For some of you, it’s nothing new, but for others, it is a huge change. There are a lot of advantages of working at home such as dressing from the waist up, and not having to deal with traffic or parking! For some, it’s actually a dream come true!  For others, it can be a huge challenge in creating the space to focus.

The ancient art of Feng Shui helps create the best energy around you for longer focus and clarity. Here are three simple tips to make your transition a smooth one.

YOUR DESK POSTION

Most of you might be working from your bistro table or the bar in the kitchen is your desk. Some of you might be working from your bed. Although it’s convenient, this is not ideal Feng Shui. If you have your own business or work for a company, it’s very important to have a desk for grounding and focus. It gives your work more weight and grounding to support the growth of your business and finances.

Furniture placement in Feng Shui is also of utmost importance.  You should be able to comfortably see the door from your desk without turning your head.  This goes back to old military strategies of visibly seeing from every angle and not having your back to the door, so someone can't come in behind you without you noticing. It creates security and makes you feel at ease, so you have more clarity for your work.

CLEARING YOUR SPACE OF CLUTTER

Good old clutter!  It multiplies, especially paper clutter!  It’s a constant human undertaking. It’s best to clear it as often as possible, even if you take 15 minutes a day. Create brightness through clearing clutter.  Think of the feeling you get after you have cleared everything out of a room and then putting a fresh coat of paint on it. Sometimes you just want to leave it clear and expansive!! You slowly and methodically put things back in the room, and often it’s less than there was before.  It’s because this feeling expands your awareness and creates more room for opportunities to come your way.

Not only can clean spaces offer a breath of fresh air, it is actually good for your immune system. It has been proven that looking at clutter can lower your energy and in time that can lower stress your immune system, which is the opposite of what we need at this time! Pay close attention to clutter and know that it is a part of self care.

ART PLACEMENT FOR SUCCESS

At this time in our lives we need to surround ourselves with positive and beautiful things to help us stay positive at this uncertain time in history. Bringing nature into your home is mandatory in Feng Shui. We do this in many ways in consults, but for starters, surround yourself with everything you love. If you have an old piece of art in your office that makes you sad or reminds you of a rough time in your life, pass it on to someone who will have a fresh new perspective about it.  Try to include accessories that mirror nature or bring in nature. All of us need it daily.

Now is a great time to move art around your home or really think about furniture and pieces that don’t work anymore. Be especially sensitive to what you see in your office.  Remove what doesn’t work and replace with things that MAKE YOUR HEART SING and INSPIRE YOU!!

The interesting thing is, in Feng Shui, the success of your work starts in your home. It couldn’t be a better time to think about creating more balance. There are many layers to study and put  into practice. You can start with these 3 baby steps…ENJOY!
